Plastic surgeons are often specialising in hand surgery dealing with either congenital or acquired conditions and trauma

Dupuytren’s disease is characterized by palmar contracture.

This disorder, is of unknown etiology (though there are factors that contribute to its development), manifests itself clinically as either unilateral or bilateral contracture of the palmar aponeurosis. It displays by forming nodules and strings along the palm or fingers. As it progresses, it causes the skin in the affected area to become thinner and the joints to become more rigid, which impairs the ability of the hands to perform their normal functions.

In the early stages of the condition, a conservative approach to treatment may be appropriate, but in more advanced cases, surgical treatment may be required. This may involve dissection or even excision of the affected area, performed usually under regional anaesthetic

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Compression of the median nerve in the area of the carpal tunnel (palm) can cause a variety of symptoms in patients, including discomfort, numbness, and even atrophy of the extremity of the hand. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a frequent disorder with numerous causes and affects the hands. In the early stages, the therapy may consist of conservative treatment. Still, as the condition progresses, it may become necessary to treat this surgically under local and / or regional anaesthesia

Trigger finger – Stenotic tendonitis

It is one of the hand disorders that affect people most frequently. It is an inflammatory condition of the flexor tendon system called Stenosing Tenosynovitis, and it presents with a painful disturbance of the flexion function of the fingers. As a result, the affected finger will “block” when flexion is attempted and "jump" when the extension is attempted. In mild cases, conservative treatment may be an option; however, patients require surgical transection of the tendon sheath in neglected conditions and relapses. This is done through a small incision in the patient's palm (about 2 centimeters in length) and is performed under local anaesthetic.
